Q&A with Diesel Barbershop

Updated: Feb 12

Diesel Barbershop is the modern-day version of the vintage corner barbershop, and appeals to what today’s customers want in a haircut experience: Awesome barbershop with a real man-cave feel! In short, a barbershop with high quality haircuts, shaves, beard trims and shoulder massages. All done while having a beverage.

Who is Diesel’s target audience? Diesel customers are male, 16 to 75 years old. Diesel also cuts boys and women’s hair. Diesel customers are looking for a place where they can relax, maybe drink a beer, while getting their haircut & a shave. Free from the drama that sometimes comes with beauty salons or the cheap, quick cut hair-care chains. They are also looking for a more masculine atmosphere where they’re free to talk sports or whatever their interests are with their barber or other customers. In fact, customers sometimes will linger after their hair cut to finish their beer or try to set the high score on Donkey Kong.

Questions and Answers

1. How did the franchise get started and what is the background of your executives?

Diesel Barbershop was born out of founder Shayne Brown’s experience growing up around his mother who worked in a hair salon, where he received a good, reliable cut every time in a clean shop – and with very little drama.

Upon leaving his hometown, Shayne searched far and wide for a similar experience and instead, found bad service, terrible cuts, dirty environments and indifferent attitudes. After working as a Financial Advisor and Real Estate Developer, he started conceptualizing Diesel.

Diesel is the result of that 20+ years journey that included feathered hair, mullets, goatees, and faux hawks. The first Diesel Barbershop opened in 2011 in San Antonio, TX.

2. What sets you apart from your competitors?

Competition: Barbershops, Hair-salons, Great Clips, Supercuts, etc.

· Diesel is different because its “Manly” atmosphere is a much more comfortable place for a customer to get a “great” haircut. Without whining kids, women getting perms or other things that make getting your haircut uncomfortable and not a pleasurable experience.

· Diesel Barbershop is a manly, cool, inviting and very comfortable barbershop for customers to get haircuts, shaves, beard trims, grey hair coloring and a shoulder massage while having a beer or beverage on the house.

· The Average ticket is more than double of a value oriented haircut chain ($35.20).

· Diesel gets to spend more time with the Customer and deliver a better experience and product all while making the employees and owners much more money than a value haircut brand.

· Fast ramp-up to income is much quicker with Diesel than the competition and Diesel can make its owners well over $100K per shop.

3. What is the best thing about being a part of DIESEL?

This is a very attractive business model that offers a low investment, good ramp-up, small number of staff, and strong potential return on investment. We’re completely dedicated to helping franchisees be successful and we are here to help make that happen in all aspects of the business.

4. Can you describe a typical day of a franchise owner?

Diesel Barbershop is a Semi-Absentee model, which means the owner is involved on a part-time basis. This provides great flexibility to the owner and allows them to keep their full-time employment.

They act as the CEO of their barbershop and will manage the managers, run the budget, proforma and oversee the company.
